Dr John Chan, Chairman, Chairperson, Organizing Committee of The 5th Hong Kong PR Awards, said: “This year, we selected ‘Strenthening Connections, Enhancing Professionalism” as our theme since public relations plays an increasingly significant role in an organization. Over the past few years, many companies around the globe and all industries in Hong Kong have faced multiple challenges brought about by the pandemic. At the same time, the pandemic has also given rise to opportunities and innovation, which have profound impacts on the organisations themselves. We wish that the Awards can be a driving force to let us tap into the industry’s collective strength and wisdom so as to extract insights from best practices as the industry grows. This will in turn facilitate

the industry’s future development.” Dr Chan continued: “This year, we have added a new campaign COVID-19 Response which would raise public awareness of the role of public relations in helping organisations storm through various challenges and potential risks during the pandemic. We are also pleased to add Student Awards, with a view to nurturing the next generation of public relations professionals and fostering knowledge transfer.”

At the “Table for Two”, Mr. Tsang shared that politics is an art of garnering support, and extended the analogy to corporate communication, explaining that branding also plays a role in gaining support from target audiences and stakeholders. Communication, hence, assumes the very important mission of communicating across the right messages. Separately, Mr. Cheng opined that although AI has become a new trend, it cannot replace humans, and the role of PR practitioners remains crucial. He advised young people to care society, keep up with the times, and continuously learn to adapt to the new normal after the pandemic.
